From Times Staff and Wire Reports

A commission has been assigned to determine what might happen to Florida if Cuba’s Communist regime loses power. Gov. Bob Martinez has no information that change is imminent, but he believes the state should be ready in case Fidel Castro, in power since 1959, loses office. “It’s pretty hard to believe that he can continue to get support from a system that no longer exists,” Martinez said, referring to the reforms in the East Bloc countries. The Governor’s Commission on a Free Cuba is made up of government agencies, private business and academic leaders and prominent Cuban exiles.
