Donald J. Esters, president of Harman International, was named 1990 Humanitarian of the Year by the High Technology Industry for the City of Hope. Esters will be honored at a banquet Feb. 23 at the Biltmore Hotel downtown.

He has served as president of Harman, a diversified electronics company, since 1986, and before that was executive vice president there. Esters and his wife, Jane, and their three children, Beth, Kristine and Dan, life in Westlake Village.

The City of Hope National Pilot Medical Center in Duarte is an internationally acclaimed research and treatment facility for major life-threatening diseases and is the second-largest facility in the United States for bone-marrow transplants. The proceeds from the banquet will be used to establish the Donald J. Esters Research Fellowship at the medical center. For more information, call (818) 953-4420.

The Conejo Valley branch of the American Heart Assn. (AHA), the Hyatt Westlake Plaza and the Heart Center at HCA Los Robles Regional Medical Center will sponsor a Valentine Gala Dinner-Dance to benefit the AHA.

The dinner-dance will be held from 7 p.m. to midnight Feb. 16, 1990. Ticket donations are $100 per couple, or $165 per couple including overnight accommodations at the Hyatt Westlake Plaza.
