Nation : Suit Alleges Union Racketeering
Six dockworkers’ union locals need federal supervision to combat decades of domination by John Gotti and other reputed mob figures, U.S. Atty. Gen. Dick Thornburgh said today in announcing a federal lawsuit.
The civil racketeering suit alleges that three organized crime groups--including Gotti’s Gambino family--are meddling with the International Longshoremen’s Assn.
The suit names 32 current and former ILA officials along with 12 other people, including Gotti, jailed Genovese family boss Anthony (Fat Tony) Salerno and imprisoned Westies boss James Coonan.
