Western 76, Sonora 56--Sam Sabbara and Robbie Shelton combined for 38 points for host Western. Sabbara, a senior guard, had 19 points, nine rebounds and seven assists. Shelton, a junior forward, had 19 points and nine rebounds.

Western’s full-court press caused Sonora to turn the ball over 20 times and helped Western to a 42-25 halftime lead. Western led, 22-18, but outscored Sonora, 20-7, in the second quarter.

Sonora closed to 64-51 with 3:50 left before Western’s defense forced three turnovers that resulted in three consecutive baskets. Tom Barraza had 16 points for Western (19-5). Roy Park made seven of 12 from the floor and finished with 14 points to lead Sonora (6-19).
