‘Impressions’ Too Intense for Kids?

Share

“Showtime” would best describe the pro-”Impressions” argument witnessed at the Feb. 6 Redondo Beach school board meeting. It was a well-orchestrated presentation by People for the American Way, state educators and school board members. Unfortunately, the vote confirmed the philosophy of social engineers and discarded community concerns for the emotion well-being of 9-, 10- and 11-year-old children.

Concerned parents remain adamant that the “Impressions” series is too intense for elementary school children. In the attempt to desensitize children to subjects including death and occult religious practices, young students will be exposed to vivid stories that depict morbid, scary images.

Unless the goal is to train students to write creative obituary columns or to practice witchcraft, I suggest the State Board of Education discontinue approving morbid, scary literature that gives our children nightmares.
