Young people are less and less interested in politics and public affairs and they think being a kid is harder than it used to be, according to a survey of more than a thousand 15- to 24-year-olds printed in the February issue of NEA Today, the magazine of the National Education Assn.

The priority list:

- Being successful in your job or career--72% included this as one of their top priorities.

- Having a close-knit family life--68%.

- Enjoying yourself, having a good time--56%.

- Making a lot of money--51%.

- Being a good American who cares about the good of the country--49%.

- Being involved in your religion and living up to your religious principles--38%.

- Being involved in helping your community--24%.
