WASHINGTON — The White House was aware of the possibility that drug traffickers in Colombia had surface-to-air missiles in advance of President Bush’s trip last week to a four-nation drug summit, his spokesman said today.

Asked about the missile seizure, Fitzwater told reporters: “I don’t have specific information. There was intelligence before we left of various kinds, about missiles and rockets and other kinds of equipment with various plans.”
