Astronaut Plans to Retire

KENNEDY SPACE CENTER, Fla. —
Shuttle astronaut Richard (Mike) Mullane announced his retirement Tuesday after 12 years and three space flights to return to his hometown of Albuquerque. Mullane, 44, an Air Force colonel, is scheduled to make his final flight this week on a secret military mission aboard Atlantis.
