500 Islamic Students Rounded Up in Tunisia

TUNIS, Tunisia —
Police rounded up about 500 militant Islamic students for questioning in overnight sweeps on university hostels, a student spokesman said Thursday.
Most of the students are officials or members of the pro-Islamic Tunisian General Students Union, which has been leading a campaign of campus strikes and sit-ins.
The spokesman said an estimated 800 students are now in detention.
