Bechtel to Work on Pipeline Project: Bechtel Corp., based in San Francisco, has been chosen to be the general contractor on one of five proposed projects to supply natural gas to California. The $1.2-billion pipeline expansion project of Pacific Gas Transmission Co. and Pacific Gas & Electric, which will transport gas from British Columbia, is scheduled to begin construction by the end of 1991, with service to begin in 1993.
