P. M. BRIEFING : Australia Appoints Bond Prober
An Australian government investigator was appointed today to examine the affairs of Alan Bond’s troubled Bond Corp.
Chris Sumner, chairman of the Ministerial Council for Companies and Securities, said the investigation will try to determine any breaches of civil or criminal law by members of the Bond group of companies.
The announcement of the investigation came just two days after Bond Corp. won an appeal to regain control of its Australian brewing operations, which had been in receivership since the end of December.
Sumner, also South Australia’s attorney general, said Adelaide lawyer John Sulan was appointed special investigator at a ministerial council meeting today.
An interim report from Sulan is expected by June 30.
