Tewksbury Sets Mark in Backstroke

Canada’s Mark Tewksbury set a world record in the men’s 100-meter backstroke Thursday, clocking 53.69 seconds in a meet at Saskatoon, Saskatchewan.
“It felt great. The magic was there,” said the 22-year-old from Calgary, Canada, who lowered the old mark of 54.20 seconds set by East Germany’s Dirk Richter in 1985.
