NATION IN BRIEF : KANSAS : Detroit Finalist, 20, Wins Miss USA Title

Carole Gist of Detroit was crowned Miss USA 1990 at Wichita, Kan., and will go on to compete in the Miss Universe pageant in April. The 20-year-old Miss Michigan, who is 6 feet tall, put her hands together as if she were praying and looked up when she realized she had won. Gist, a student at Northwood Institute, said her life ambition is to establish a performing arts foundation for disadvantaged children.
