California IN BRIEF : BERKELEY : Students Seek Probe of Clash With Police
- Share via
Several UC Berkeley students involved in a violent clash with police during the weekend said they plan to ask the city’s Police Review Commission to investigate. They said they also had met with a lawyer to consider civil action. The students claim police used unnecessary force during a five-hour confrontation at Barrington Hall, a controversial campus residence facility. The student cooperative association that runs the hall has voted to close the facility, the site of illegal drug use and the source of neighbor complaints. The clash between 50 police and more than 400 youths was sparked by a police effort to break up a party at Barrington.
