From Times Staff and Wire Reports

The board of the Whitney Museum has voted to dismiss Thomas N. Armstrong III as director, the New York Times reported. The action was announced by William S. Woodside, president of the museum. Among reported reasons for the action were dissatisfaction over the failure of the museum’s proposed expansion and what was seen as Armstrong’s lack of leadership of the curatorial staff, the newspaper reported. Woodside said that the Whitney’s associate director, Jennifer Russell, will be acting director and that a search committee was being formed to choose a successor.
