U.S. Carriers on Time More Often: Major U.S. airlines improved in the number of on-time flights and received fewer baggage-handling complaints in January, the government reported. The Transportation Department, in its monthly Air Travel Consumer Report, said the largest domestic carriers reported that 77.6% of their flights were on time during the month, compared to 70.2% in December. Southwest Airlines had the best on-time record for the month, with 82.5%. Eastern had the worst, with 70.7%.
