De Beers to Split Foreign, South African Operations

LONDON —
De Beers Consolidated Mines Ltd. unveiled a plan Tuesday to split its foreign operations from its South African business in what observers called an apparent attempt to shelter the huge diamond mining company from political turmoil in its South African homeland.
