A Pacoima woman was arrested Wednesday night after her 2-week-old son was found abandoned in a trash bin, police said.

Alicia Gonzalez was arrested on suspicion of child endangerment after her baby was found about 3:30 p.m. in a trash container at a shopping center near Glenoaks Boulevard and Vaughn Street in Pacoima, said Sgt. William Thomas of the Los Angeles Police Department.

The infant was taken to Pacifica Hospital of the Valley for examination, but Thomas said the baby appeared unhurt. He said the baby was to be placed in a foster home Wednesday night.

A security guard found the baby after hearing its cries coming from the bin. Thomas said he did not know how long the infant had been in the container.

Police found a note written in Spanish attached to the baby’s clothing.

“Basically, it said ‘If you need clothing or food or bottles for the baby, call this number,’ ” Thomas said.

Police called the telephone number, and the mother answered, enabling police to find her, Thomas said.
