In the first step toward upgrading Oxnard’s blighted Meta Street area, the City Council on Tuesday voted unanimously to sell land there to a corporation that wants to build a health clinic.

Clinicas del Camino Real Inc. will pay the city $280,000 for the property on the northeast corner of Meta and 7th streets.

The corporation plans to build a two-story clinic with 12 to 15 examination rooms that would provide X-ray, dental and mental health services, expanding the services provided at its existing clinic at 351 South B St.

Roberto Juarez, executive director of the corporation, said he hopes to start construction by January and be in the building by September, 1991. However, the council must still approve the actual plans.
