In their embarrassment over playing two mistaken national anthems for a South Korean gold medal winner Friday, Asian Winter Games officials at Sapporo, Japan, delayed two victory ceremonies until Saturday.
Those ceremonies, for Chinese winners, went off without a hitch. But the South Korean medal winner, 13-year-old Kim So-hee, was subjected to yet another slip.
Kim, who won the women’s 1,500-meter short track speed skating race Friday, was introduced as a North Korean when she entered the 1,000-meter final Saturday.
On Friday, as Kim stood bewildered on the winners’ stand, the public address system first played the Mongolian national anthem, then that of archrival North Korea before the right anthem finally came on.
