In response to “Prep Sports--Putting Fun Back,” Part A, Feb. 17:

While students, parents and coaches should never be excused from irresponsible, poor or bad sportsmanship nor should they be exonerated from severe and imposed penalties for indiscretions, breach of rules and the like, it is important to remember that the presidents, heads, principals, boards of trustees and district school boards are those who are ultimately responsible for prep school athletics.

Such persons and boards must never abrogate their responsibilities and jurisdiction to prep school athletic governing boards such as the CIF and the AAF.

PATRICK J. CAHALAN, S.J.
