Cholesterol

I never smoked. I never drank liquor. I rarely ate desserts. My father died last year at the age of 87, and he ate absolutely everything. I am an active member of the Sierra Club, and I hike 2-3 times a week, about 8-10 miles each time. So guess what happened to me two weeks ago? I had a heart attack on the UCLA campus while paying a visit there, and had emergency bypass surgery at the medical center.

The government report was timely reading for me because my intake of eggs and meat might have caused the attack (“U.S. Urges Cholesterol Cut,” Part A, Feb. 28). Having a heart attack is no fun, especially for a 49-year-old who is used to being active. I hope everyone pays attention to the new report.
