USC Student Wins Carmel Music Contest

USC student Qi-Xin Pu won the top award at the 14th Annual Carmel Music Society’s Competition held recently. The 21-year-old violinist earned $1,500 and a $1,000 contract to perform in the Carmel Music Society’s regular subscription series next season.

Cellist Rowena Hammill, an assistant professor of cello at Cal State Northridge, won $750 for second place. The $500 third prize was awarded to saxophonist William Wilson, a senior at CSN.

Thirty-three applicant competed for the prizes.
