A Pasadena-based defense subcontractor and a City of Commerce-based plastics manufacturer have received “Business Excellence Awards” from the Latin Business Assn.

Pacifica Services Corp., named outstanding corporation of the year, provides management and research services to the military, and private industry. The firm, which had six employees when founded in 1979 by Ernest Camacho, employs 580 people and posted $36 million in 1989 sales.

Los Angeles Blow Molding Co., which makes lightweight plastic containers, was named growing company of the year. Owner Hugo Bastidos joined the company in 1969 as plant manager and part owner. Bastidos became sole owner in 1983. The firm’s sales reached $5.8 million in 1989, and it employs 120 workers.
