Malathion Spraying for the Pesky Medfly

Share

In their zeal to protect California’s agribusiness, it appears that the members of California Medical Assn. have forgotten that, while they may deal with matters of life and death, they must never play God (March 6).

In supporting the continued spraying of malathion without conclusive proof of its safety, they may be contributing to future tragedies similar to those of the 1950s and ‘60s when Thalidomide and the IUD destroyed so many lives.

As one of thousands of cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy, I have, as a consequence, a depressed immune system. Can the association ensure my safety? Or the safety for my granddaughter who has allergies and asthma?

I would hope that the association would reconsider its priorities and put public safety before corporate profits.
