Walter Orr Roberts, 74, founder of the National Center for Atmospheric Research and one of the first scientists to warn of changes in the earth’s climate as a result of man’s increased technology. In 1960, Roberts formed a staff at the center in Boulder, Colo., to study climate as it affects life on this planet. Two years ago he and former astronaut Russell Schweickart started an international computer dialogue between American and Soviet scientists on global warming.
