Gillespie Begins Tour: Dizzy Gillespie, accompanied by his band, his manager, and U.S. Secretary of State James Baker, left Sunday aboard Air Force 2 for Windhoek, Namibia. The veteran trumpeter/composer has been invited by President-elect Sam Nujoma to perform Wednesday at his inauguration ceremony, before an audience that will include Nelson Mandela and several heads of state from African nations. Gillespie will then leave for Spain, where he has a major acting role in a motion picture, “Winter in Lisbon.” Gillespie then embarks on a four-country tour of Eastern Europe, with stops in Berlin, Moscow, Prague and Warsaw.
