From Times Staff and Wire Reports

Former White House Chief of Staff Donald T. Regan, threatened with a $10-million libel suit by author Elie Wiesel, has withdrawn a charge of duplicity against Wiesel, lawyers said. In his book, “For the Record,” Regan said Wiesel made a televised plea for then-President Ronald Reagan not to visit the Bitburg military cemetery in West Germany “after assuring me he would do no such thing.” Wiesel’s suit, not yet filed, said that he made no such assurance.
