Cohen Quits Race for Hidden Hills Council

The chairman of the Hidden Hills Planning Commission announced his withdrawal Tuesday from the town’s City Council race, citing health reasons.

Harvey Cohen, 56, said a back injury could prevent him from regularly attending council meetings if he were elected.

“I am reluctant to take on a job that I physically may not be able to complete,” Cohen said.

Mayor Chris K. Van Peski and incumbent council members Colleen M. Hartman and Warren H. McCament are seeking reelection in the city’s April 10 election.

Cohen had been among four challengers. He threw his support to the incumbents, who have backed a controversial development proposal for lower-income housing.

Candidates Susan Norris Porcaro, David G. Stanley and Howard Klein are opposed to the proposal.

Cohen’s announcement comes too late to have his name removed from the ballot.
