NATION IN BRIEF : WASHINGTON, D.C. : 3 More Charged in Pentagon Probe
Two defense consultants and a former Navy purchasing official were charged by a federal grand jury with conspiracy, wire fraud and conversion of government property in the latest charges in the Ill Wind investigation of Pentagon procurement practices. Mark C. Saunders and Thomas E. Muldoon were accused of taking large payments in 1987 and 1988 from several defense contractors in exchange for confidential bid information on a $150-million Marine Corps electronics contract. Former Navy official George Stone provided data for unspecified compensation from the consultants, according to court documents.
