Hogan Wants ‘Shrimp on the Barbie’ Ads Pulled: Paul Hogan, who enticed American tourists to visit Australia with his “we’ll throw another shrimp on the barbie” campaign, says he’s sick of the ad and wants to bid it g’day. “Take it off, you nitwits,” Hogan said in an open letter to the Australian Tourism Commission that was published in the Australian Financial Review newspaper. In it, Hogan complained that the tourist board had overused the commercial, made in 1984, and reneged on verbal agreements. “There was no written contract, but we did have a verbal one,” Hogan wrote. They said the agreement was “no cheap-looking ads, no endless repetition of the same old commercials.”
