Convicted con man Gerald L. Rogers, who fled California and roamed the world after his conviction in June, 1987, on 29 counts of selling phony motion picture tax shelters, was sentenced Monday in U.S. District Court in Los Angeles to 10 years in prison.

Rogers, 54, was found guilty of bilking about 157 investors out of more than $1.3 million and depositing most of the funds in a Panamanian bank account. After jumping bail, Rogers remained free for more than two years before his arrest by Swiss authorities in January.

Asst. U.S. Atty. Stephen Mansfield, who helped prosecute Rogers, said that while the former Malibu resident was at large he continued to run scams.
