MISSION VIEJO : City Hikes Tracts’ Park Requirements
An ordinance doubling the amount of parkland required for new housing developments was approved this week by the City Council.
By unanimous vote, the council agreed to increase the amount of parkland required from 2.5 acres per thousand residents to five acres per thousand. The ordinance would also allow developers to pay fees in place of deeding parkland to the city.
City officials said the fee money would be used to improve the 694-acre Mission Viejo park system.
