Southeast : Caltrans Calls for Workers to Clean Up Litter Saturday
The California Department of Transportation and local officials are calling on volunteers to join a national litter cleanup day Saturday in Long Beach, Downey and Huntington Park.
The local segment of the Great American Trash Off will be kicked off with brief ceremonies in Long Beach, where Lakewood Boulevard begins just north of Los Alamitos Circle, and in a parking lot adjacent to Downey City Hall. The Long Beach ceremony begins at 8 a.m., while the Downey event starts at 9:30 a.m.
Huntington Park officials ask that volunteers go to the city’s maintenance yard at 6900 Bissell St. from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.
The Long Beach volunteers are to pick up trash along a two-mile section of Lakewood Boulevard. Volunteers in Downey will spruce up various locations throughout the city.
Huntington Park volunteers also will cover various areas throughout the city. In addition to the litter pickup, Huntington Park is accepting household hazardous wastes, a city spokeswoman said.
