Welder’s Death Brings Charges Against 4

Top officials of a Wilmington cargo container repair company were charged Wednesday in the death of an employee who was crushed beneath a container that fell from a forklift.

Named in the 15-count misdemeanor complaint filed by the city attorney’s office were Martin Container Services Inc., company President Nicholas Martin, vice president of safety Thomas Ford, foreman-supervisor Antero Rodriguez and yard supervisor Ronald Gillett.

They were charged with violations of various labor codes designed to enforce safe conditions in the workplace, Deputy City Atty. Tracey Webb said.
