The Practice of ‘Outing’ Draws Fire

Share

Re “Whose Sex Secret Is It?” (March 22): As a member of the gay community, I too believe we can only benefit from celebrities and politicians being open with the public about their sexuality.

However, I cannot condone the practice of “outing.” What I do in private is no one’s business but my own. It is my place, and no one else’s, to tell people.

Accepting yourself is the most important step in “coming out of the closet.” Being thrown out by someone else, before you are ready, is just wrong. It causes undue trauma in an already traumatic situation.
