WORLD : Thatcher Assails Israeli Policy
British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher, in remarks published today, said the settlement of Soviet Jews in the Israeli-occupied territories, including the Arab sector of East Jerusalem, is illegal and unfair.
“Such settlement is illegal and could make the quest for peace in the region more difficult,” Thatcher said in an interview with the Kuwaiti daily Al Qabas at her official London residence at 10 Downing Street.
“It would be unfair to grant the Jews freedom to immigrate at the expense of the rights, homes and land of the people of the occupied territories,” Thatcher told the newspaper’s editor, Mohammad Jassim al Saqr.
