Federated Stores Chooses 4 New Directors for Board

Federated Stores Inc., the parent of Ralphs Grocery Co. and such department store chains as Bloomingdale’s, has named four independent directors to its board.

Three of the new directors are retired chief executives: Robert A. Charpie, the former chairman of Cabot Corp.; Reginald H. Jones, who headed General Electric Co., and John K. McKinley, who led Texaco Inc. The fourth new director is Lyle Everingham, the current chairman and chief executive of Kroger Co.

Previously named to the board were four Federated Stores executives: G. William Miller, chairman and chief executive; Ronald W. Tysoe, president and chief operating officer; Allen I. Questrom, chairman and chief executive of the company’s two department store divisions, and Byron E. Allumbaugh, chairman and chief executive of Ralphs.

A new board was established for Federated Stores, the holding company for Campeau Corp.’s U.S. retailing interests, in January as part of a plan to restore the department store operations to financial health. The department store divisions, Federated Department Stores and Allied Stores, filed for bankruptcy court protection on Jan. 15 in the biggest retailing bankruptcy in U.S. history.
