SANTA ANA : Acidic Cloud Affects Nine at Pacific Bell
Nine Pacific Bell operators were treated for respiratory problems after the release of a chemical cloud from NLP Engineering Plastics, 1831 E. Carnegie Ave. in Santa Ana.
The cause of the acidic cloud, which was discovered about 9 p.m. Monday, is under investigation, NLP plant manager Brent J. Crabb said. The cloud dissipated within a few hours.
The operators were at a Pacific Bell facility at Edinger and Red Hill avenues in Tustin, about half a mile from the NLP plant. They were released after being taken to a hospital, and were given a precautionary checkup Tuesday morning by a toxicologist, Pacific Bell spokeswoman Linda Bonniksen said.
LNP passed an annual inspection in January, said Bob Merryman, director of environmental health for Orange County.
