Corona Strike Ends--at Least Officially: The Mexico City brewery that makes Corona beer opened under police guard and began hiring replacements for the 5,200 workers who went on strike seven weeks ago, demanding higher wages. Mexican courts had refused to recognize the strike, opening the way for the brewery to hire the replacements. The new workers were hired under the terms of a contract negotiated by the Mexican Workers Federation (Mexico’s largest labor federation, known as the CTM) and a new local that the CTM had formed after turning its back on the strikers and their original local.
