Religious Figures Make List of ‘Most Admired’ in Decade

The list of men “most admired” by Americans over the last decade is dominated by religious figures, according to the Princeton Religion Research Center.
The organization affiliated with the Gallup Poll cites surveys showing that--apart from the most popular figure, former President Ronald Reagan--the most admired men during the 1980s were religious figures.
After Reagan as the men most admired during the course of the 1980s were, in descending order, Pope John Paul II, the Rev. Billy Graham, the Rev. Jesse Jackson and former President Jimmy Carter, who is an active “born again” Christian.
The latest poll, conducted in 1989, placed President George Bush first, Soviet Premier Mikhail Gorbachev, Reagan, the Pope, Graham, Lech Walesa, Donald Trump and Lee Iacocca, Jackson, and, in a tie for 10th, Carter and Bill Cosby.
