ORANGE COUNTY MIGRATION

The state Department of Motor Vehicles’ Change-of-Address File was implemented in 1969 as one way to determine migration in and out of the state and its counties. The numbers shown here represent the number of California driver’s license holders reporting a change of residence. They include all changes from Orange County to other California counties and out of state as well as all changes from California counties and out of state into Orange County.

Moves by license holders do not directly translate into the number of people migrating, but are indicative of migration patterns affecting Orange County. So for 1988-89, Orange County lost 10,915 to other California counties and gained 12,258 from other states for a net gain of 1,343.
