Mitterrand’s Popularity Takes Tumble, Poll Shows

PARIS —
French President Francois Mitterrand’s popularity has tumbled six percentage points to 55% --his most negative showing since he began his second term in 1988, an opinion poll said Friday.
The monthly Sofres poll in the Figaro magazine also showed that only 47% of voters 18 to 24 years old “had confidence” in Mitterrand, compared to 68% in March.
