From Times staff and Wire reports

A swarm of bees--believed to be Africanized “killer bees”--attacked about 50 people in Mexico, seriously stinging at least nine, the government news agency Notimex reported. The bees attacked people in the town of Tehuacan, about 120 miles southeast of Mexico City in the state of Puebla, Notimex said. It quoted a Red Cross spokesman as saying 24 people were treated for stings, and nine remained hospitalized. Witnesses described the swarm as “a cloud of bees” that descended on the town and attacked people in four neighborhoods.
