Free Clinic

We would not have chosen a better descriptor of the Los Angeles Free Clinic than your editorial reference to us on as a “splendid anomaly” (“The Clinic That Won’t Say No,” March 30). This is not to say that we desire this singular distinction in light of its reflection on the state of health care in America.

Yet, to have our institution recognized for its contribution to the health and welfare of our community is indeed gratifying, and is a credit to our more than 450 volunteers and dedicated staff who make up our enterprise. In the absence of a public commitment in the foreseeable future to accessible health care for all, we accept this designation and pledge to continue as we have, providing free, confidential and nonjudgmental services to all.
