THOUSAND OAKS : Apartment Complex Near Trees Opposed

Share

Residents of a central Thousand Oaks neighborhood are fighting to keep the city from allowing a developer to build a 154-unit apartment complex and a senior citizens’ home near 43 oak trees, located in one of the last areas of grassland in the city.

“Big city developers want to encroach on the things that we hold precious in our community,” residents wrote in a letter that is being circulated in the neighborhood around Hillcrest Drive and Hodencamp Road.

According to the letter, the development proposed by Lincoln Property Co. of Huntington Beach would destroy the natural habitat of wildlife living among the trees, located on the north side of East Hillcrest Drive.

But city officials said that the land is privately owned and that they cannot force a developer to leave the area vacant.

The issue is scheduled to be discussed at the Planning Commission meeting at 7:30 p.m. Monday at 2150 W. Hillcrest Drive.
