OXNARD : Program to Plant Trees Gets Donations

Share

A new tree-planting program in Oxnard has received twelve donations so far, including $1,000 from GE Plastics Inc., for the purchase and planting of trees in the city’s 34 neighborhood parks.

The goal of the Oxnard Parks and Recreation Commission is to receive donations for 500 trees by June.

“People have a choice of indicating which park they want their tree to be planted in . . . and what kind of tree,” said Acting Recreation Superintendent Michele Izay.

Organizations and individuals may choose to plant palm trees or one of several types of flowering trees, other deciduous trees and evergreens.

Donors may also choose one of three sizes of trees as well, at a cost of $15, $40 or $150.

The program is being held in conjunction with Earth Day 1990, and will be celebrated with an official ceremony at 1 p.m. Sunday, April 22, at Oxnard State Beach Park.
