I am disappointed that the Newport Beach City Council would consider making zoning changes that will have a significant impact on Corona del Mar properties without some effort to notify citizens in order to obtain their input. I try to stay “on top” of what is going on but only found out about this proposal by watching the council meeting on cable. I have not seen any newspaper coverage on this. The proposed changes will make about 80% of Corona del Mar’s R-2 (two-family residential) properties become nonconforming and will make it necessary to obtain a variance/modification for any remodeling.

The underlying purpose of these changes is valid, but the same problems exist on Balboa Island and the Peninsula. Corona del Mar should not be singled out. What’s good for us who live on 30-foot lots in Corona del Mar should be good for other 30-foot lots throughout Newport Beach.

I urge the council not to vote on this proposal until the public is aware of its impact and can offer their concerns or acceptance.
