Drug Contaminated With Sulfuric Acid: A Paris drug company halted production at its factory and ordered its products removed from drugstore shelves after tests indicated that an extortionist had contaminated some of its medicine with sulfuric acid. Smith Kline & French said tests uncovered contamination in a bottle of an anti-parasite medicine called Zentel after threats were received from someone trying to extort $1 million. The company, a subsidiary of the British-American company SmithKline Beecham, said it was suspending all exports of Zentel, which is sold in many African, Asian and South American countries under the name Albendazole. Efforts would be made to recall Zentel stocks shipped overseas, the company said.
