Wholesale Prices Rise in Japan: Higher crude oil prices and a new consumption tax pushed Japan’s wholesale prices for fiscal 1989 up 3.5%, the first hike in five years, the Bank of Japan said. March wholesale prices climbed 3.9% over a year ago and 0.7% from February under pressure of the yen’s recent weakness, the central bank said. The fiscal year ended March 31.
